I have one that is working fine but the speed controller is not working correctly. The slowest speed is very fast and the fasted speed is even faster. Any suggestions. What type of motor is this and is there a way to fix the speed controller or replace it?

you have to talk numbers Low 500 - 3500 rpm. High 4000 - ~21000 rpm. assuming the motor has brushes, I would then assume the controller is a basic router control circuit. A long shot because of the age the machine maybe a PWM control, then you are looking for a DC motor controller, have to see the board and maybe transistor numbers.
