Default Loop hoof knife.

So needed a new loop knife too..

I forget just how much I like new hoof knives.. Especially now that the pattern I like is dialed in.

All these years the blades are dialed in..

NOW it's time to get the handles dialed in..

Brett Miles was the original handle designer for the Ducks head handle..

I've changed it some and now call it the Goose Heads since it's a little bigger.

The side thumb rest is the modern addition..

I've got 13horses horses on the new blade/handle design and pretty happy overall.

It is something very special to make the tools you use in your craft from scratch, and personalize them to your own hands.

I would say less than .00001% of today’s world can do that. Very nice indeed.

It is very sad when I think about how many people can do what you do. Actually make the tools/ items they use in their working profession.

Very few today would even conceptualize about making their tools..

I'm lucky enough to have the trade smithing background so metal is metal..

I needed a new hammer handle for my oldest hammer I bought when I was 10 from True Value.. Even back then they were made in China.. LOL..

Over the years this hammer had to have the face dressed 2X from the center being pressed in simply from use. it had that many miles or hammer strokes on it.

Anyhow, all the tools used to make the handle were made by me but 1.. The chainsaw used to section the log.. The logs were about 30" across.

I made the hammer.. I made the ax to limb the tree, I made the frow to make staves, I made the draw knife to shape the stave so I could make the handle.

Crazy really.

If you had planted the tree when you were 10 you could be using the wood from it!
Nice tools, not only can you make the tools you know how to use them.
Carry on.

Randy.. Black locust grows super fast here..

While I did not plant the black locust I did harvest some of the wood when I cleared the area for the school..

Some of the trees are only about 15 yrs old..

Black locast is my new favorite wood..

Fast growing.. rot and bug resistant. burns super nice.. Makes great handles..

Only thing I don't like about it is.. When you form a sliver.. they are long and slender. ouch.
