Even though the engine is running rough, it has lots of power. As a temporary measure, set the bucket down on a level surface and ensure the bucket isn't curled up a bit. Weld on a piece of FB about 2 ft long on the top edge of the bucket pointing back toward you. Now when you are operating that bar will tell you the relative position of the bucket bottom. To fill a bucket, raise the boom about 5 inches and curl the bucket down til the lip is touching the ground. Drive forward and just as the bucket stops advancing and the wheels break free you curl up a bit and then drop the lip down and the machine will advance into the hollow in the pile you just made. Repeat the up and down bucket motion til the muck is coming to the top of the bucket, and then roll the bucket up and you are full. You need a new lip. For snow and manure a mild steel 1/2" plate will be fine bolted on. Consider a spade lip. If you take a piece of 1/2 x 8ft plate and from center of one edge cut the plate back toward the end removing 4-5" at the end of cut, and do the same for the other side. That slight point will punch into a pile like a knife into butter, especially if you are mucking as explained above. And for back dragging to level it has almost no effect. Hope this gives you some ideas.

Thanks for the info guys.
The beam sticking out where it can be seen is a neat idea. So update time. I installed new batteries few months back. Left them connected only to find after 5 start cycles the batteries were flat. I recharged the batteries and put a meter on the batteries while running. 12.3V. No charging. After that I put a disconnect on one terminal and would just disconnect the battery when not in use. I finally broke down and bought a cheapo single wire alternator and had to make a mount. Figuring out how to mount it was a problem since nothing is plumb to the face of the engine pulley. I made a wedge as a first thought to face mount it. After some thought I fell into this design which made it not need to be matched to the front pulley and would be easily aligned once welded into place. I used 1 of the original mounting holes for the generator and used 4 bolts in original position. It's super rugged and can be unbolted easily. So the old generator can be installed should need be.
