Chin Hung (Kingston) lathe... should I buy?

Had a chance at a 16 x 40 "Victor" lathe locally via an engineer buddy who worked at the place. He said that the slightly older one was a bit better (they had 3) but all were still nice. IIRC, it went for about $2,500. He is an engineer/machinist self-made businessman and I respect his opinion. Good bang for the buck.

Eisen machinery will source some parts for Taiwan made machines. Many Taiwan lathes are or were made in whole or part by the Annayang or some variation of that spelling and badged for the seller.
We own an Acer 17-60 lathe (1997) purchased in 99 from a bank, that looks mostly like that one. It has been a good machine. Our understanding was that it was manuf by the A-yang co to Acer specs, that Acer makes mills in house but contract out the lathes. Hope some of this rambling helps you.
Would I buy another Taiwan made machine? Yes,and have done so. These machines were all purchased used and are used daily.

I totally agree, here they would be beating the door down cash in hand. I have run a couple of Taiwanese lathes and they were ok.

That is actually identical to the acra lathe that I own, just smaller. The dials should be in metric and standard. Should have either the #4 mt on the tailstock or possibly #3. There are no clutches on these machines. When you start the spindle, the motor turns on. When you stop the spindle, motor goes off. All gear driven. I've actually ran a Kingston 22x90 down here in the oilfield work. These are some pretty tuff machines. It also probably is 3 phase, like mine, it can be ran 220 or 440 with the moving of a few wires. I have the diagram If needed.

I have that exact model in my shop and love it. 7hp 3 phase, very rigid, there close to 20g new in Canada so go get it before somebody else does. good luck

Unfortunatly the listing expired before I called him, and I hadn't saved his number. I'm monitoring craigslist in that area if he relists it.
Based on the comments, it seems like a good deal, so if it comes up again I'm going to jump on it.

I live just north of regina and have all my machining equipment at the farm. I been lurking on here for a while and finally signed up. Way to much good info on here
