Default Tool Restoration

Was in a 2nd hand store a couple weeks ago and saw this little gem. It is a 4 way lug nut wrench for a semi. It was in a severely rusted condition. For 5$, I decided it needed to come home with me to bring it back to usable condition. No, I do not have a semi but it would nice hanging in my shop.

First step was to do some electrolysis rust removal. That was a 5 day project. Then a wash with the pressure washer. Next used a 4 1/2" grinder with a knotted wheel to get it down where I could see metal.

Now I sprayed some rust reformer primer on it, followed by 3 coats of Flex Seal spray. The finished tool put a smile on my face!

Looks good,

Ive got a similar fetish with old abused tools, love cleaning and restoring, just don't have the time.

Thanks Bill. If only I could walk away at auctions when they are selling grinders.

It put a smile on my face, too! I like your electro setup! What do you use for a power source?

Just using a manual battery charger instead of the automatic types so it stays running full time. Had 2" of red foam on top of the water in 2 days. Not as speedy and sandblasting but pleasing to watch. I used the plastic barrel to eliminate accidental grounding of the anodes. Used 2 cups of washing soda in 50 gallons of water. I use old lawnmower blades for anodes. Not the most effective but they are free.
