Default I Should Not Be Allowed To Try To Sell Anything Unsupervised

The title sums it up perfectly. Over the last couple of weeks, I bought and sold a new (to me) Bridgeport milling machine and lost $40 in the process.

I bought a very lightly used Bridgeport manual milling machine from a older gentleman, along with quite a bit of tooling. I paid to have it moved, blown off and shrink wrapped for storage. The tooling was delivered to a friends shop for sorting, cleaning and repairs if needed.

The seller sold the mill to a guy from Arkansas, who had left a deposit and was told he had 3 weeks to get it out of the seller’s location, 6-8 weeks later it was still there and no word or contact from the buyer. So the seller sent back the deposit and resold it to me.

Two weeks after the sale, I got a call from the gentleman from Arkansas, he was a little angry I bought the mill from out and under him, even though he was very late and with no contact. He wanted to buy it still and I offered to sell it to him at the original cost, plus the moving and storage fees, minus the tooling. He was hesitant, but finally agreed.

So being in a hurry, I did the math for all of it in my head and from invoice memory. So I quoted the figure, figuring the storage and moving fees were $300, in actuality they were $340. Before I realized this the money had been transferred and received, the storage company crated the mill and shipped it to Arkansas.

So being the stubborn GNAP, that I am, it was about 3 days later, before I realized I shorted myself out of the $40.

Most of the tooling is run of the mill stuff, not terrible, but not great either, except for the rotary table (high buck unit) the indexing head assembly and a decent milling vise. They are real dirty, from setting unused, for a number of years, gritty feeling and basically in need of some TLC. Hopefully it will work out.

First it was EBay, then CL and now my own stupidity, I should not be allowed to sell stuff. The last 4 welders I had for sale I still own, the last 2 cars I tried to sell, I still own. I have no patience to deal with other people I now can’t trust myself and my dog has no money, I’m destined to end up with just about everything I ever bought.

Jack if selling is not working for you perhaps you should buy more chit Now I just happen to have a pile of leavitrites I stole from Kieth. I can let you have them cheap and when you factor in the exchange rate how can you resist.

As for shipping I can get them to Gerry who can add to the pile and pass it off to Chris and Walter for even more keen additions plus if they want to do a little pile mining that would be fine with me
Chris could ship it to you in 50 or 60 flat rate boxes. as a bonus I would get some more floor space.

I would be happy to give you the $40 you lost for the rotary table and vice.. Would hate to see you lose money. Then the rest of the tooling is pure profit for you .

In 95 or 96 I was at a farm auction. I bought a hay baler, cheap $140 IIRC,
or about there. I was in rough shape but I felt I could get it working well
enough there was good hay in the bale chamber that was recently baled.

I go over pay for it and get my receipt, I grab all the loose bit and put them
in my car. I did not own a pickup at this time and called a friend to see if he
would assist me in towing it home. As I hang up on the phone, a guy walks
up to me and asks me if I bought the baler. I say yes and he asks what I
paid for it, I tell him that and he offers me $140 for it. I laugh and say it is
worth a lot than that to me. To cut a long story short, I sold it to him for
~$350 cash, yeah he asked if I would take a check, I laugh at him, No.

Know I have no truck to haul it home and no tractor to run it when I got it
home, although a tractor purchase was in the works.

He ran around for 20 minutes or so begging cash from anyone he knew.
I was not done with the auction so I was still there having a bit of fun and
watching him. Finally he comes up to me with the cash, he was a dollar
short... Yeah I let it slid but fucked with him a bit more, but signed over
the receipt to him.

Before he walked away with all the bits and bobs, I asked him where he was
when it went up? He said that he was dropping a deuce in the porta-john,
all I said was I hope that was an enjoyable shit, because it cost you a lot, I
and I walked away...

Oh you naughty boy, you. Does the "21st digit" have different values depending on its state?

Don't even get me started.... 40 bucks that would be the least of loss I have shortchanged my self for recently... Me and Math never got along and then add a ton of Stress too the equation well we don't play well together at any time... but I would be more than embarrassed to say how much I just screwed myself out of...
