So the average person changing their engine oil has to go to this website before he buys oil? I can not imaging the average person doing this every time they do an oil change.

If you are buying well know brand names; CITGO (Mystik), Exxon, Mobil, Phillips66, Shell, Valvoline, etc. etc. You have nothing to worry about, but off brands or house brands I would suggest you do a little more checking. The majority of my lubes at the homestead are Mobil or Citgo or my own formulation...
