Default Battery Reconditioning

I have recently purchased a couple of reconditioned batteries from a business in town. You bring in your dead battery and he gives you a recon battery for $50 and a years guarantee.

I was skeptical of this but thought it worth risking 50 bucks. So far going on 2 years with one in a tractor, and it seems to work well.
So the question is...What is he doing that I can't do? What am I paying him to do to a dead battery to bring it back?

I have read about desuphating processes, and dumping out the acid and putting Epsom salts into it for an electrolyte. Chemically, something seems wrong with epsom salt as an electrolyte.

If any of you guys have worked in a recon shop, how are they doing this?
I've got an 8D that I want to practice on.

I know one of the issues I have heard that kills batteries is if a plate inside warps, and then contacts a plate beside it. Know nothing of the how to process to recondition them though.

I've been told that heavy discharge will buckle a plate.
Back when batteries had tar poured on top to seal the cells, and I was in my teens, I used to dig the tar out, lift the whole shebang out of the box, and hose out the bottom. Deposits off the plates would build up and short the plates. Sometimes broken insulators, you could use a Kellogs box and slip it in for an insulator spacer.

They fixed that 'problem', and now you can't take them apart easily.

Hmmm, maybe I should go out to the junk battery pile and attempt to cut off a top to try cleaning the plates. Then just have to figure out how to glue/ melt top back on.

Not long ago I watch a video of a Paky who "supposedly" was making BIG money cutting the tops off, cleaning plates, soldering new connections on and closing them up to resell. He made it look easy.

just last week i sold 30 batteries for scrap.
L-16's,31's and GC6
Motorhomes have a shit load of batteries.
I have 6 L16s in my bus, born in may 2018,they are going bad.
Of course i neglected them, forgot to check fluid levels.

But,i was wondering about reconing them.
I have watched the pakis do it and the other youtubes, but i worry about fumes and all that.
