![]() I think it has a great deal to do with the old "form follows function" adage and the centuries of design by trial & error followed by more centuries of actual design refinement that gradually has rejected the less than perfect ideas while distilling down the best of the best ideas into a shape that is nearly perfect for its intended purpose. It is so closely matched to it's intent that it speaks to even the untrained eye and causes a recognition of the fact that this is something special even if he or she doesn't know what it is. I am affected by your new anvil quite that way myself. I am such a novice that I do not grasp the intricacies of the matter but it speaks to me almost as though it is alive. It has a spirit that I can see. Maybe this is what we mean by "art"? So there you go. How did I do? ![]() Quote:
Yes, I have tried the fork. I immediately saw how the shape of the tines seized the meat and held it fast no matter which way I turned the steak. But I really wanted it just because. Because I think it's beautiful and because you made it for me. ![]() The hardie I have not really tried. I did adjust the shank to fit into my little anvil's hardy hole and I have showed it to anyone who stepped into my shop. And I've told them who made it for me. I show them your maker's mark. I am very proud to have it. The cap was a surprise in that it just fits me better than any other that I have. The velcro adjustment works perfectly and the cap stays on in the wind better than any other. I simply like wearing it. Thank you very much.

I made them with that kind of thing in mind and for sure the hat had no other home in mind. Art. I think you did very well. there for sure is something about it that the shape is such. Like a battleship.. Well the old ones. sleek, sexy, powerful, artful. something right. Just looks..........

so I got 1/2 the hold down bolts done. Little over half really as I did get the 3/4" end threaded sections forged and 50% of them threaded.

here you can see the one side threaded. The shanks are to long but until I have the other side made and the anvil centered on the stand I don't dare cut the bolt sections to the right or same length.
I ordered a new set of 3/4x10 dies and a set of 3/4X10 tap set (starter, plug, bottom) from Kodiak cutting tools Syracuse, NY. Great customer service and the HSS taps and dies work very well. I've found over the years certain things just cost what they cost. Not cheap but they do cut thread very well and stay sharper longer. Less than 50% of the effort to cut threads vs the Gear Wrench China made dies. ( love the tap handles) but the other parts I buy HSS when I get sick of using the GW stuff. You can see a few of the rejects I forged as I undersized the eye part (1/2" vs 5/8" diameter) and the link rods are to short.

Have you put the new anvil to work yet or are you just using "her" (?) as a workbench for now?

![]() I don't do much as for sales. I do have 5 more demos this season so getting the anvil installed and ready for transport was top priority. I do sales at the demos but maybe once or twice a year I actually sell something. LOL. My prices compared to most everyone else are up there. I did extremely well at the Hardwick fair sold a whole bunch of items. ![]()

If someone made a stand that would fit the job I want it to do for little money I'd go that way too.
