Default "Leaking" 7018.........

Has anyone ever been welding overhead, and have the flux on a 7018 rod start melting & "leaking" down the rod ?

(This happened to me tonight) !

That's just one of the great things about welding you damn sure get burned. When I first started welding I had so many burns on my arms it looked like a was some kind of addict. Now I don't get burned near as bad, several years of welding taught me ways around getting burned so bad, But every now and again one will get me good like today, damn berry burn't threw my jeans got my knee and burned another hole on the way out.

Marko, aren't you using rod condoms for safe welding?

The Devil made me do it, honest!

Doesn't matter so long as its dry-lubed & flame retardant.

No, but it's somewhat common to have slag from the completed weld start to run down the rod, I'm guessing that is what you saw.
