Question Ducati and Ninja 500: What are they worth?

Ducati and Ninja 500: What are they worth?

At an auction tomorrow. The Duck is probably out of my price range. My dot is interested in getting her motorcycle license so the Kawi might be doable. Neither runs because the batteries are deaddead.

The Kawi was turning over but needed gas to run and when added, they couldn't get it to start. Carbs are probably gummed up.

They couldn't get the Duck to turn over... I think it comes with the stands shown. The seat on top belongs to the Kawi...

What are they worth?

Unless you have friends in the Duck business, I would stay away from that. The Ducks are getting more and more dealer only to repair. The Kawasaki is more user friendly to work on and a good learner/commuter motorcycle. Too many unknowns to give you an accurate price. I would look up the blue book value and start subtracting for what is needed to make it run. If it's been sitting a long time, complete carb clean, fuel tank flush and possible rust removal. A battery, probably fork seals, etc. Pull the oil filler cap and smell for burned clutch, smoked rod bearings, etc. Does it show signs of abuse? Stretched chain, rubber under the rear fender, blown fork seals, flat spots on the tires, etc. Fuel petcock could be trash too. Tires for dry rot inspection, I could write a novel here. What's it worth is purely up to you. If you have no use for it, it's worthless. I've seen people spend three times the blue book value on something because they wanted it. Kind of like the people that spend $25/quart on oil they change every 1500 miles. I just tell them "if you sleep better at night knowing that oil is in your motorcycle, it's money well spent"

All depends on how much you want to ride them. Scrap price is probably under $50, and that might be selling some parts.

The 2003 Ducati is a 748 and stands go with it. I would only get it to part it out and it would have to be stupid cheap. I don't think it comes with a title. But it would look good parked in the driveway!

The EX500 Kawasaki is a 2007 with 4400 miles. I could be tempted to throw a grand at it.

They have a couple other bikes, a 97 Harley with 56,000mi and a 2013 Blvd with ONLY 160mi.

I'll post a link to the auction in "buy and sell" here. Bikes will probably be on the block around 12:30. You could call them and leave a proxy bid. PM me if you want me to check them out for you. PS: one of the workers started the Harley for someone and it started right up and sounded good.

The 2007 EX500 Kawasaki with 4400 miles. will proly bring around 1,500 at the low end but could go as high as 3,000... just depends on how bad one wants it they are popular bikes.

Default Auction results on the bikes...

Auction results are as follows, keeping in mind there is a 10% buyer's premium PLUS 7% sales tax on top of the winning bid amount.

Ducati 749 (race bike--no title): $4000
Kawasaki EX500: $1400
Boulevard 800: $4200
Harley: $4000

None of them went home with me...
