One solution was parking garages where you rent a space with a charger, but then you are walking home a bit. But it is one possible option.

Once you remove the lead acid battery and the oils there is little hazmat in a ICE car. No worries, FL like TX the weather would kill me. Albeit, I like your politics.

I'd agree, but I think at 150k miles there's a much greater chance of the battery writing off a car than a conventional engine. There's loads of engines that go on a lot longer than that with nothing but routine servicing but batteries will wear out, maybe at higher, maybe lower miles. But on balance I'd take my chances with a 150k mile Passat Vs a 150k mile model 3 |

I did this 10 years ago.
We went to the local car dealers looking for a car for my wife. Everybody had an electric car in the showroom, so I fawned over it until the salesman thought I was interested. Then I would ask him how much does it cost to change the batteries on this thing? Nobody had any clue. Nobody offered to find out. They all just tried to change the subject. Basically I just shook my head and walked away as I told them, “Anybody can tell me how much it costs to change that Genuine Toyota battery in my Tacoma. So WTF guys?” Of course I would never buy just an electric car. I have a car and a truck and a boat and a motorcycle and 4 bicycles (no more airplanes but I’m still living the dream guys) and I would consider adding an electric vehicle to that but not replacing any of it with one. Not even my bicycle. |

The Tech at work is a Farm Kid from Iowa [I call him a Kid he's probably 30 years old] He has a lot of connections with folks back in Iowa including the local VFD. They had a Tesla catch fire did what they usually do poured water on it and poured water on it. The SOB wouldn't stop burning the local boys being practical Iowa farm folk said "Fuck This" They rounded up a front end loader dug a pit filled it with water and pushed the Tesla in "Problem Solved"

Sometimes it is just best to let it burn. Less mess to clean up that way. Just focus on keeping surrounding areas from catching on fire. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I wonder if the Fire Depts will start charging for an EV fire. I saw a sign on a parking garage in Houston a few weeks ago that forbid EVs from parking there. I bet an EV fire in a parking garage would be pretty bad.
