1) How long have you been working in your line of work? fabricator 33 years
2) While working, do you have to shout to be heard by a coworker just 3 ft away from you or close to you? Yes
3) Does occupational noise bother you? yes
4) Since you've started working, have you experienced any symptoms of hearing loss, like ringing in the ear, pain or been diagnosed with any sort of heart disease/hearing disorder by your physician? Yes, not by a Dr.
5) At work, do you use any form of hearing protection when working to control noise? Yes, ear plugs and now noise cancelling ear plugs 33 years

Thank you very much for your response.

So, yes I have some hearing lose..

I don't think it can be helped.. I wear hearing protection all the time but even so there are just certain noises that just permeate the body.

3) Does occupational noise bother you? Very seldom, if it does I get my ear muffs
4) Since you've started working, have you experienced any symptoms of hearing loss, like ringing in the ear, pain or been diagnosed with any sort of heart disease/hearing disorder by your physician? The only time I've experienced ringing or pain was at a bar with an insanely loud band, we left. I can't remember the last time I saw a physician.
5) At work, do you use any form of hearing protection when working to control noise? Once in a while.
I think I've experienced louder noises while playing as opposed to working. Race cars, a couple of concerts etc, most during my working life..

I also understand this is a sensitive subject for some who despise HR for all its safety rules but I am not HR and just a student. I have five short questions and these are my questions:
HR is not responsible for safety and/or any safety rules. Someone has to protect the companies ass and it's not Safety. I do not despise HR personel nor do I have much more of an opinion. I do however have firm faith and belief in Neblett, Beard and Arcenault.

I grew up driving A, G and B John Deere tractors. My ears have been ringing since I was 10.

The only noise at work that bothers me in the young guys and their headbanger music.

I grew up on a JD 720 diesel. My ears have been ringing since I was 12 or so. And a fair amount of shooting when I was younger.

I don't think my hearing is that bad but I guess I just don't know what I am not hearing.

Edit: 16 years in machine shops probably hasn't helped much either.
