Jack, As far as my local codes go, they do not care if you use steel or copper. NY is a funny duck, they allow copper tubing to hook up the controls on heating system but not for air lines.
I have done air lines in several places in copper without any code trouble, we did have to explain to an inspector that copper was allowed by the Feds for airlines, he did some checking and then ok'ed the installation. He said he had not run across it before.

Dan - Thanks for bumping. I read all this tonight just now. Lots of good info. Only possible mistake I see is I ran TypeM, the red stuff. Its rated higher psi than I will ever need and my lines are mostly protected. I'm in a home workshop so I think I'm fine with the thinner pipe. Thanks for the info - JP

I really need to finsh this thread.
