Default It's ALIVE! FrankenSpoolMate 3535!!!

After having problems with the duty cycle on my beloved 3035 SpoolMate I decided something had to be done. After a little research, I discovered that the ventilated snout from a 3545 is a direct fit and bolt-on. Tips and nozzles are different, though. And the motor and some other parts are different between the guns. But at $53 from the LWS it was worth a shot and I'm happy to say the improvement was about 90%. I still had a couple "pop-backs" once hot and the larger nozzle makes welding in corners harder but otherwise it was a vast improvement. I haven't tried it with .045 wire yet--I can't remember if I would need a different roller set or not.

PS: I had already tried the "trick" recommended by the tech folks at Miller of relieving some of the roller tension to avoid "squishing" the wire as it passes through the roller.

That's some good information and work there! Thanks.

I scooted the thread over to the Equipment forum.
