If there was money to set on fire, Id be buying an BIG USA Wilton, but need to make do with something from China, and for doing cylindrical holding work. Just had the option of dropping $5 Bills on a brand new massive Wilton Tradesman, but its a machinist style, I need something that is friendly to round items, and the ability to rotate is a must.
Mostly aware this kills the strength of the vise, but Im not going to be beating the shit out of things, I have the proper tools to do what I need and beating things to death is not on the menu. Ive looked at used and the shit being offered locally is just so abused, and over priced. Yost seems to have a nice vise that might fit my needs, thought Id shop past you guys in the event Im missing something. Would not mind something larger, but I think this would work, for mostly general maintainance/driveline/tranmssion part holding work. Yost 750DI $211 delivered ( its gone $10 this week ! ) Extreme-Duty Casting Clamp force: 13,400 lbs. and Torque rating: 316 Ft-Lb Made from heavy duty 65, 000 PSI Ductile Iron castings, 3x stronger than cast iron vises Jaw Width: 5" (12.7CM) x Jaw Opening: 5" (12.7CM) x Throat Depth: 4" (10.2CM) x Pipe Capacity: 0.125”D x 3.5"D (0.32CM x 8.9CM) Vise head rotates 360° with respect to the vertical, locking at every 30° or (12) twelve different locking positions and equipped with a large 3.5" x 2.7" (8.9CM X 6.9CM) anvil work surface; 360-degree interlocking (geared) swivel base with (2) lock downs adjusts the direction of the jaws for proper placement.No-pinch main screw handle Machined Q235 steel main screw 0. 75"D with rolled single acme threads at 4 threads per inch Replaceable Hardened Steel Serrated (Top) Jaws and EXCLUSIVE SELF-ALIGNING Pipe Jaws 0.51"D x 9. 5" (1.3CM x 24.1CM) Long handle with rubber bumpers Base mounting tabs: (4) x 9/16"D (14MM), mounting hardware not included. There is a 5" Doyle that says " NEW " on the page, Ive never seen that one, its very similar to the Yost, for $40 less... in my travels I will have to swing through a store and have a look, would love to know what it weighs. The Yost is supposed to be 60 pounds.. like to find heavier, but that may not be in the cards...

I have a cheap China clone of that yost on my home bench. I think my dad bought them ( had two of them at least). For about $75 each 25+ years ago. One lived outside mounted on a semi rim, moved around as needed. I had old shop teacher talk me into selling it to him about 10 years ago.
The other one has withstood the shop abuse. The pipe jaws did come out and are misplace now. The handles have been straightened a couple of times, I’m just waiting to get some scrap chrome rod from work to make bed ones. They are handy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have a Yost model 208,swivel base got it 25years ago at a government auction for $250 along with a 6" ball bearing bench grinder..best auction score to date. The 208 used to be standard equipment on the older M35 Army 6x6 wrecker trucks-bolted to the front bumper!
From what I heard Eastwood bought Yost Vises in its entirety..hopefully they stay true to the quality vise Yost has been known for. Any vise IMHO isnt money spent but invested..a vise is one of those shop essentials..just like a MIG welder

It looks like, if you screw up / break a Yost China Vise, you can buy parts for it. Not sure how it works with a Hazard Fraught Doyle Vise, speaking specifically post warranty period. From what I can see, just looking at the specs, the Yost has twice the clamping force, its about 10 pounds heavier, and Im all about value / function, so Im leaning towards the Yost, but plan to hit HF tomorrow to put an eyeball on the Doyle before I drop a hammer.

Gosh had I seen this earlier I would have recommended an old Parker. One of the features I like about them is the radius in the throat. The design is conducive to holding round things. They can still be had In good condition for under $200. A well designed vise indeed. cutter liked them too.
