Any structural engineers here?
Im building a room with a storage loft in my pole barn and would like to know what size steel beam I need to span a 10’ section to use as a header for floor trusses. Id like as short a beam as possible so I can get the tallest door possible. I can get you more info if I find someone here that would know the answer.
Feel free to pm me if you want. |

I think the next question is how much weight do you plan on storing up there? Are you collecting anvils or MyPillows?
I would see what the scrap yard has for beams and that would affect my decision...

I'll be putting steel shelving units up there and storing all kinds of stuff. Auto parts, tools, etc... not exactly anvils, but close.

You will need to provide a lb/sqft estimate plus width x span. 100 lbs/sqft? 200? The joists/rafters are also carrying the load on top of the beam(s) and they also need to be specced along with the spacing.
