Default AXA Piston Type QCTP Clean Up

With some bartering with fellow member Dave (chengdave2003), I acquired a Phase II AXA piston QCTP. I has an Aloris wedge type on the lathe, but am working on a project that will require the use of the additional QCTP. My first job was a through disassembly, cleaning, re-lubing and reassembly of the QCTP.

To disassemble the unit, you loosen the allen screw holding the pusher plate

remove the pusher plate, turn it 90 degrees and tighten the screw

The spindle assembly will now pull out

Again loosing the pusher screws and removing the pusher plate, the 2 spring and tappet assemblies will now come out

All of the parts are cleaned, inspected, then re-lubed with high quality grease

Reassembly is the reverse of the disassembly

1 - the tool post
2 - the pusher plates turned sideways
3 - the spindle removed
4 - the spring and tappet assembly
5 - back together, ready to use

I will put that on my things to do list. I took my lathe chuck apart to clean and grease it and found the scroll was shot. Maybe my toolpost will be a better canidate for cleanup and regreasing.
