Default 2 liter bottle rocket

Didn't we have a thread here about launching soda bottles using water and air pressure? A search came up empty.

TIA

There was info on psi and water levels for the best launches. There was also video that I'd like to show some kids to explain what we'd be building. The videos I found were not what I wanted.

I still have the launcher that we built when one of my sons was in grade school. My compressor goes to 125 psi, so that is the maximum that we used to pressurize the bottles. We used a long cord to "fire" the rockets, and provide a reasonable safe distance between the high pressured bottles and us. We experimented with different volumes of air/water to get the best height... that justified the need for the build.

The son learned from his science teacher how to modify the bottle to become a rocket (cone on end, fins, balance), and I learned how to make a launcher. Great fun!

Let me know, if you need any info on making a launcher, and I'll post a photo or two.

I saw some youtube vids of water bottles being used as noise makers.

The guy had made an adapter that had a Schrader valve on it, you screwed the bottle onto it and then pressurized the bottle.

He was shooting them with an air rifle, they are LOUD...

I'm sure the threads would fail long before it got to 1,000 psi, lol.

I used to drill about a 1/4" hole in the bottle cap. Give the empty bottle about a 5-6 second blast of propane from a torch. Replace cap, place on a piece of horizontal c-channel as a launcher and put a match to the opening. Done with the right mix, the damned thing takes off like a rocket. Makes a helluva WHOOSH (going sonic?) and flies about 30 feet. Watch your hands and eyebrows! I guess it could explode if the mix was exactly right, but great fun.
