You are 24 and may not be able to see it, but, I agree with LW, you will be happier with yourself later. Sometimes you should listen to an old man. There are good deals and good works. This is your chance. You will come out in good shape on the money either way. But one way you get to feel warm.

I completely agree! In your place if you can afford it, I would offer him $200.00 which is only a fraction of the value of the steel. You don't even have to pay for transport so you are ahead, and as OM says it's really about how you will feel later. Did you take advantage of a friend in need, or WERE you a friend in need.

I do hope that this has not become a 'finger pointer' or a 'heap on', as I only wanted to point out my particular feelings as to what I read and how it was worded.

If this is not how it plays out or came about, I can and will admit the err of my words.

I wish I could look in the mirror and see the prick that others tell me they at times get confronted with. The prick is always the last one to know.

I already gave him more then what he wanted. Wont say how much, but I gave him 3x what he wanted. Ive been going through our mutual friend for prices/ ect, got everything straightened away today.

And I made my dad buy his lawn tractor, leaf rake, chipper, and a bunch of tools.

Dont worry, I think like that normally.

I don't know what to tell you on this table but the idea of having him set the price is good since he is a friend of your friend and he really needs the cash.

Now, excluding this situation I have a rule an old man taught me about 40 years ago and I use it every time I buy something.

It is a simple phrase that you need to implant in your mind.

"If you are not embarrassed by your offer, you are offering too much."

This phrase just got me an F-600. It was for sale and the asking price was $4000. I bought it for $2500. It is a 1988 with 43K original miles on it.

I offered $2500 and he jumped at it. Later he said he HAD to get rid of it because he had nowhere to park it and the friends place it was at was going to make him move it in two days. I have had it two weeks and other than plugs (twenty year old original plugs) and filters I have done nothing to it.

If your offer is too low, THEY can say no.

Do people ever try to dicker with you over the price of your knives?

How about a picture, Bob? I think I see a reward in your future.

Photo- Finally!

Wont tell you how much, but it was MORE then the $35 he asked for at first!
Turns out its a 1/2" top. I might get a Wilton 5" double pipe/jaw vise for it too.

Ideas for cleaning it up and sealing it better?
