Default Welding table

Hey guys, a friend of a friend is having some heath problems and getting rid of all his equipment. My friend got the Miller 135/OA setup and some other misc stuff. He does not have room for the welding table however. Its a 4x5ft 3/4" thick top on sch40 3x3" legs on casters. I have not seen it, its only a few years old and in excellent shape. (Rubbed down with oil for no rust). Paid $250 for the top.

He said I could have it dirt cheap, whats cheap? Rather what does it sound like its worth to you guys?

You complicate this by describing him as a FRIEND. If it was a stranger I'd start at $75 or $100. The bottom of the table was probably scrap / low cost and the top might be less today. He does say he going to let it go dirt cheap. It's easy to go up with $ offer, it's hard to go down.

Just ask him what he needs for it, and then you can decide if you want to or not.....I rarely haggle for things with friends, I let them set the price, and it's either yes, or no.

Thats a good size table, but according to the steel pate weight calculator posted by one of our SFT member, the top of the table weighs 600+ pounds. I don't care how cheap it is, do you have a way to move it? 4' x 5' is a lot of floor space to give up, do you have the room? If the answer to both of these questions is yes, then as Greywynd said, ask what he wants or needs and then make the final decision.

Jack

For those of you how happen to miss this link, here is the plate weight calculator. http://www.portlandbolt.com/steel-plate-weight.html or the other one that includes different shapes, http://www.onlinemetals.com/calculator.cfm

It will cost you $500 to build one. Steel has gone up. I would let him set the price. Then yes or no. I would not try to cut him in these circumstances.

You call him a friend. To me that means he sets a price then yes or no. I will not price a friends product .I either want it at what he says or I don't .Haggle and Jewing (sorry if political incorrect ) is for strangers.

Default Just built one

I just built a welding table. 30" x 48". The top is only 3/16" and it cost me about $280 including the basic metal table and the steel I bought / cut /welded to make the top.
Your friend's table sounds great! Whatever he wants for it is bound to be a bargain. Now at 600# plus, how you will get it out of his shop and into your own -

Just my $.02

I have a very low to the ground single axle trailer I can borrow from a friend. Since its on casters, loading it with a winch should not be a problem. Thankfully I have a cement floor!

$100 it looks and I have a deal.

If he first wanted $100, I'd give him a $150, end of story. Why? Because I can, it's well worth it and I would!

He's sick, your not, he needs the money more than you need the damn table or he wouldn't be selling everything he has.

I reserve the right to offer a future "you suck" concerning this, but possibly for different reasons.
