I would use a flap wheel for the cleanup and nothing till it got BB's on it and the flap wheel again. Mine is very similar and I conected the legs about 6" down and hang clamps and I made a cross bar and the pipe clamps go there another side is for the vicegrip clamps.

Since I discovered those Roloc discs, I've become quite a fan. They don't get nearly as aggressive as a flap disc on a 4 1/2" grinder can. Of course, they don't work quite as fast either.

But, I'd go over it with the surface conditioning discs until I got it where I wanted it. Go progressively finer grits to get it as smooth as you can, or are happy with.

The best way I've found to keep my rinky-dink table top clean and rust free is to use it. Another tip is to keep a coaster handy, or another table near-by to set your coffee cups down on .
