And I knew that because of Shade saying it. But all I ever remember since a kid is people calling oil by weight, so it is a habit.

For those old enough, straight grade engine oils SAE 20, 30, 40, 60 or 60
were common. They only had one viscosity specification and it was at 212°F.


Multi-grade oils, for example SAE 5W-30, have 2 viscosity specifications
One at a low temperature, the temperature varies based on which grade
is desired. And a high (212°F) temperature, same specifications as the
mono-grades.
