Some valves are filled only in the stems some are the filled in the stim to the valve head all the way down best way to tell is sodium valves feel lighter and sound hollow when you tap them against a chunk of steel as where solid will have a ringing sound but if unsure "an at your own risk sort of test"
a Dremel an cut off wheel and cut in to the stem just keep away from water

I only mention this as I find a lot of people even mechanics have no idea how catastrophic it can be when cutting in to a valve and then toss it in to a can of water to cool it

Not knocking your punches by any means.... just a precautionary FYI for others.....

We found some Snap-On screw extractors with broken tips in the dumpster of the local Snap-on distributor. Made nice punches and the helix gave something to hold onto.

Thanks for the idea I stopped by the machine shop on the way home and they gave me two old valves.

Your welcome. Did you try it out yet? Your angle may be too steep and the point may break off. If it does just regrind at a more shallow angle.
