Default Saw Cuttings

Are there any uses for band saw cuttings? Seems a shame to just throw them in the scrap bin.

Mix them with paint and paint your walls. Then you can hang magnets anywhere on the walls.

Throw them on top of fresh concrete for traction, and they will eventually patina pretty well.

You could always try taking 50 pounds to an auction. See if you can find a soulmate.

Market them as iron supplement for soil. Someone will buy them.

If you knew the composition you could use them to make canister damascus, but you'd have to be rather OCD to sort your saw chips

It could be cast iron, mid steel, grade 8 steel from sawing off a bolt, etc. Don't think I care to adopt any OCD traits.

I’ve read that about five times now and every time I blow beer out of my nose. Good lord that is funny!

Chris I’m glad you found a home for some filings. Most people don’t have the initiative to look, as you found with the teachers.

I stuffed a few shooting bags with the aluminum shavings I'd saved up in a 5 gallon pail. Worked pretty well, they pack in hard and tight and are a bit lighter than a comparable amount of sand. Since they have an irregular structure, they don't seem to squish or move as easily--and that's a good thing.

Since then I just let it hit the floor and sweep, vacuum, or blow it out the door. Never did find anything interesting to do with it otherwise.

Now, I did find that aluminum ribbons placed in the flower pots and beds keep the cats out pretty well.
