Building inspectors just look to see if things meet the applicable codes. Square or not, level or not, they don’t generally check or care.

I'll also ask to have the fill dirt I brought in mechanically packed. On that note would a 6000 lb mini ex be heavy enough for that? At the most I'm looking at 12" of fill.

As Terry says track excavators do not do well at compaction. A full size 250000# excavator will move around where most other machines will flounder around in muck. If your D8 has done all it can in the way of compaction, an excavator won't help anything.
In my experience, a 12" lift is close to the maximum you can get good compaction into even with a heavy vibe packer.

Rent a plate compactor, place 4 to 6" lifts of fill, smooth, than run the compactor over it. Compact until you have refusal. In other words until the compactor dances instead of compacting the fill more. Then add more fill and repeat until you are up to grade.
Tracks suck for compacting soils, as they are designed to float, a wheeled vehicle is better, but a sheepsfoot roller works the best.

We started building our new warehouse at work too. Also a self build. There's a bit of teasing and shit talking going on. . The warehouse is sitting on almost sixteen feet of fill at one end.

I tried to pack the dirt with the D8 but the grousers just chew everything up. I guess the opposite extreme of a mini ex.

Supposed to rain again this weekend and into the beginning of next week. So much for getting the slab done before the price increase. Nothing has dried out from when it rained Tuesday.
