Default My Latest Project

My latest project that is not work related. I bought a new Lincoln Ranger 260 MPX, gas drive welder with a 10,000 watt generator. That lead to a Harbor Freight trailer (#62665), which lead to me doing some work with the “W” substance, which then lead to a new trailer hitch on the van. It was an expensive week.

On Friday, Norm and I pick up the welder, checked 4 Harbor Freights for a trailer, then bought one. Half way through the assembly, I found out the spring shackles were missing, they (HF) at first told me I had to order them from parts, I said I was returning the trailer, it then dawned on them, they had already done the DMV paperwork, which meant the returned trailer was basically junk, they somehow found the shackles.

The trailer decking was a chore, I hate the “W” substance, so I was almost violently sick from the start of the job to the finish. On Sunday, Norm and I mounted the welder on the trailer, installed the trailer hitch on the service van, then made the virgin travel to the gas station to fill the welder’s gas tank, the brought it home, roughly a 3 mile trip, all went well.

Backing up the trailer is going to be a chore, its very short, you can not see in in the van mirrors and the back up camera is a joke. It will be a steep learning curve.

2 - the welder
3 - the stand
4 - the stand
5 - the hitch on the van

Good to see the forces of evil have not slowed you down. You're even tough enough to practice with W....hope you wore a mask

That trailer will be near impossible to back with a regular size vehicle. You need to weld about a 20 foot extension onto the tongue to get it back where you can see it........either that or plan on pushing it back by hand.

Nice welder. Instead of slowing down as you get older, you’re getting up a bigger head of steam!

I bet the next thing for the trailer is a tongue jack with a wheel.

Maybe you can get some driveway markers and put them on the four corners of the trailer do you can see it in the mirrors.

Why didn't you fab up your own trailer ?
In Pa. (and some other states) welders, air compressors, mortar mixers, etc.
don't need licensed.

First, I paid less for the complete trailer than for the parts you showed, secondly, for what I needed, this was far cheaper, quicker and had everything I needed in one box (okay actually two boxes).

I don't like sending money to China these days.
The quality is not there, that axle is a problem, and the steel rust's very quickly.
I see them at the flea market all the time, and see those problems.

I have minimums, and that trailer is below them.

To each their own though.

No tool boxes? So how smooth does it weld?

Jack, perhaps you could make something (removeable or fold away) akin to the snow plow marker guides that would stick out to where you could see them in the mirrors.

I don't think it's all a matter of seeing it. It's so short coupled with the vehicle that the turning radius of the vehicle will not turn short enough to keep up with the trailer. They'll pull just fine, but they don't push worth a damn.

I have a couple of short trailers, and I ended up putting a ball & hitch on the front of my Polaris Ranger to push them back into the shed......and that's even chore sometimes.
