Looks like the rusty ring in the center is the middle of the outer bearing race. Tried heat and a 20 ton press to get the race out and it didn't budge. I'll try the welding trick.

Heat will expand both the hub and race, and the race being a thinner cross section, it will expand more, due to more heat absorbtion. Try the press again now that it’s all cooled off again. And make sure you are only pressing against the bearing race. You may even have to turn a slug the correct size on the lathe to do so. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Still seems to be some confusion about the bearings Tim is dealing with. What he has is two ordinary tapered roller bearing assemblies--one cone (or inner race) and one cup (or outer race) per assembly. The inner race (shown in the first picture he posted) is a bit unusual in that it has an extended hub but otherwise it's no different than any other cone. The outer races are typical of ordinary tapered roller bearings. There are two of them pressed into the hub of the pulley from opposite sides. The rusty section in the middle is part of the hub or pulley, not part of the bearing, it's the back of the pocket the race sits in. Those races have to come out from opposite sides, you cannot push them both out from one side. The easiest way to do that is to run that bead of weld around the inside. A press is of no use in removing them...

That rusty ring is actually part of the pulley not the bearing but Timmy is not
listening. So when he breaks the pulley he will be really upset for not paying attention again. He thinks it is a single race and it is not it is 2 outer races one needs to come out in either direction from the hub. I just have my popcorn here enjoying the shit show.

I have had good luck with a slide hammer or like I said a hammer and a drift can remove them. But as you said, and I said... One out each side, as they are separate pieces... But Timmy know better and thinks it one piece. But I don't even want to start on how a pulley would walk off a one piece outer race if it was really the way he thinks it is...

I've never come across a setup with two roller bearings and two separate outer races that can't be pressed back out. Every time I've seen two taper rollers....the outer race was one piece.
I tried the weld and no luck.
