Default Another Miller 30a thread

I know better than to waste time getting on craigslist, but I did it anyway. While there I found a miller cp250ts 3phase machine for a good price. I know its a 3phase machine, but it came with 2 30a spool guns(I thought). In addition it was listed as having a wc115. Seems the guy listing the equipment didn't know what he had and listed them as 38 spoolmatic guns. I setup a time to go check everything out and it was "on".

As a side note, my truck still has spongy brakes so I traded my girlfriend vehicles for the day. It was real fun telling the guy I was stuffing the 650lb welder and 2 spool guns in a rav4! After it was all said and done, you couldn't fit much else in there.

So I stopped out and looked over the gear, it was as I suspected, 30a spool guns. They were the older models, but I couldn't pass it up. What I didn't know, or see in the CL ad was it had a wc24 and a psa-2 for the second spool gun, sweet.

I talked the guy down to $750 and loaded up the gear. I have one gun with the wc24 and psa2 boxed up to go to Camarozach, I scrapped out the welder, and I'm keeping the last 30a with the wc115 for myself. Yes I know the 250 can run on single phase, but I have too many big welders and don't need another, space is a primium here.

It was a quick learning curve as I needed to verify the equipment worked before I boxed it up to ship out. This brings me to my only question, whats the best value out there for cable sleeves? The sleeve on my 30a is a nylon one and trashed. I would imagine the leather wraps would be better as I noticed some pretty good burn holes in the one I've got. What do you all use?

I have a nylon cover on mine that is like new because I don't let anyone use my shit.

Gonna be a lot of copper windings in that bitch--they don't make 'em like that any more...

You can send me that running gear though, I have a use for it...

PS: haven't seen any of the CP welders at auction in years--they must all have been scrapped by now...

PPS: don't let your girlfriend see those pictures!

I plan on putting the running gear under a Linde welder I've got. She was the first one I sent the pics to as she can appreciate the massive size. The 30a came with a nylon cover thats trashed. One of the reasons I'm leaning toward leather with snaps cause the zipper is what let go on the nylon one.
I only got $120 scrapping it out, I was a little disappointed at 65lbs of copper.

So when you scrapped it out, I am assuming that you cleaned the copper out separate from the steel?

Yeah, even stripped the jacket off the connecting wire/cable to get the best price.

I plan on getting a new nylon sleeve for the gun end to cut down on some of the weight(compared to leather). Also need to measure the cables to see if I can use a 3” or 4” probably leather or whatever else for the rest

"the zipper is what let go on the nylon one."

I have this one on my 30A, works well. Chinese finger puzzle type, scrunch it up and it gets fat enough to slide over connectors, then pull it tight and smooth it out a few times. No zipper OR snaps to catch on stuff.

Thats perfect. I was thinking of how I could get the cable wrap to go up on the rubber block on the back of the gun, that should work great.
