Took the two inboard seals that were leaking down to my local parts house and after measuring he came up with two Timken P/N's. Neither one is listed as current. He is calling Timken today and will let me know if he can get them, or a replacement P/N.

I had good luck several years ago with a place in the states called Seals Unlimited, very knowledgeable, good pricing and shipping.

Chris, I would still go with a light grease, even if you get new seals. The old 9" South Bend lathe I learned on at school had grease cups, mind you they were bronze bushings too.

Exactly my plan. So far the parts guy says Timken does not stock the number and there is no new P/N for the two inside seals. He has a couple more places to contact yet. It may be that I will have to fab a new inner plates with O rings to eliminate the seals.

What size are the seals you need?

If you look the old seals over with a magnifying glass you may be able to find a part number on the inner/outer lip molded into the rubber.

I saved a friend’s old brush hog gearbox by doing that and finding a number on the old seals. Nobody could track down a replacement by size, auto parts store even had it in stock.

You need three numbers to select a seal.
shaft diameter
seal seating bore and seal thickness. Unless one of those numbers is non standard an off the shelf seal will be available.
It may not have a number that matches the factory seal but who cares
