I think subconsciously my mind said I had to work on the vise, I found
out yesterday earlier in the day that Rod passed. I think it is cathartic.

But I don't mind not having cutter's rust.

Some more pictures.

I am likely to weld up the flat part of the body with some nickel rod and then
mill it flat. Not only is there the rivet like piece beat into the surface there are
a number of marks and divots in it from what only looks like someone struck
and arc to it.

Prior to paint I will likely sand blast all the to painted surfaces.

Also likely to cut off the existing handle and make a new one with removable
end caps.

You can see the pad that are broached in the body of the vise. They are cast
as bosses and then broached to size. You can see the wear on the slide of the
moving jaw as well.

I stand corrected. I thought it was Grey, not so Grey, and really really Grey something to do with that unofficial motto that starts with “If it moves Salute it”

I am a man so my default color palette is the same eight colors you get in
a 8 crayon box of Crayola's.

With the Navy there are a few other colors I did not mention. JP-5 purple,
is it a retarded purple, fire main red. A dirty off white, and a blue pastel
and a green pastel they try to use on interior space to add a little color.

Also the paint they used when I was in was still oil/solvent based and was
great paint. I was also still leaded. I here they now have gone with water
borne paint and it is lead free.

It's going to be a damn nice vice when you finish restoring it no matter what color you paint it. To get something comparable in size and quality today you would probably have to spend close to 2K.
