Default Best Quality/Price For 220V 170-250 Amp Mig Welder?

Not that you need to worry about it with a 220 welder, but I have found that with my old Lincoln SP-100, which I use only with self shield flux core wire, I prefer the .030” flux core wire. It seems to burn it nicer than .035” which I think was only thing I could get 30 years ago. I tried some of the .030” flux core wire in a free no name welder I pickup up years ago, and it ran much better than .035”.

So sometimes, if you are limited on big smo machines, stick with .030” wire. The .023” can get very finicky, in my past experience.

After using either .035 or 1/16” wire most of the time at work the last few years, anytime I get back into fine stuff it seems strange. Vastly different than when I was using .005” filler wire with the laser welder a few years ago.
