We could do a page that shows all tools from a specific site. So, for example, it would show "Homemade Tools built by members of ShopFloorTalk.com". If such a page existed, would it be useful to you? |

I do the same thing on SFT that homemadetools does.
I post pics and text I find on other sites and give links to the original site. Nobody has ever mentioned that I shouldn't be doing this. There are many other members that do the same. However, I am miffed that my turbo encabulator build is not on his site. ![]() ![]() |

RancherBill -- we're opening up a new category for pre-famulated amulite tools; your turbo encabulator build should fit in there nicely.
midmosandblasting - thanks for the suggestion. The Sites feature is now live: http://www.homemadetools.net/sites . There's ShopFloorTalk.com at #10. Looks like we have 218 homemade tools listed from this site so far. This feature is still in beta, so I'm interested in any suggestions that anyone might have to offer. |

You know Jon, I won't quibble with what you're doing but I do have some reservations about how you're doing it, particularly with the rather careless way you seem to mis-categorize some of your selections.
For instance, how in the world could you think this is a "home made cold chisel" when it's clearly described: "I used this piece of 1 inch strap for my anvil to punch the old ones out into one of the holes & then to pound the new rivets flat."? ![]() I don't know how many years my dad had that old chunk of iron out there on his little rock farm before I laid eyes on it some 60 years ago but it's been laying around here & there in my various garages & shops for at least 30 years. I'm pretty sure it's not a cold chisel. ![]()

Thanks cutter - sorry about that, we can edit or alter that listing to your liking. I think the confusion there stems from the preceding sentence: "Dad handed me a hammer & 'coal' chisel to use knocking the rivet heads off.", whereas the tool in question is used to pound rivets flat, not knock the rivet heads off.
How would you like the description to read? |

Jon, there is nothing remarkable about the old slab of iron except for childhood memories of sicklebars & blood blisters.
![]() I've hung onto it mostly because it was in my father's little farm shop ever since I can remember & I've hung onto as many of his tools & a few curiosities as I could just because they were his. Some of them are also very useful. If I were you I'd remove it because it really doesn't have any characteristics of a "homemade tool". How about a homemade Forksnatch instead? ![]() Or a cantilever gate?

One more thing: how about we get you out of PA Weldor's thread in the future?
Just start your own thread if you want to discuss something instead of continuing to tag along on the tail end of this one. ![]() Seems to me that would be a bit less intrusive.
