![]() Thanks for your comments. I know whats special about your fire arms training now, you own the school. I'd think it was special too. My fire arms training came when Arizona enacted concealed carry. I don't concealed carry, I don't want to shoot myself again. ![]() I'm on a fixed income and have to find ways to curb expenses, so I can buy more cool tools. In a couple months I'll be 70 and loving life. I'm a weekend farmer, with 2 acres. Starting a compost business. It's taking up my spare time. Arizona has 8 months of good weather, 4 months of hot weather, Aug. is the last of it, Sept. is an Indian summer month. Last edited by Vern2; 08-08-2013 at 08:26 AM. |

Mac watching the video wont really do anything for you . The lineset is coiled on the back of the air handler . this means it will have to be uncoiled and you would preferably have a second person available to feed the lineset through the wall opening while you wrestled the air handler to the wall and then hang it on the wall bracket . This is a good idea for do it yourselfers but the video doesnt actually show the unit being installed . The air handler is shown hanging on a stand and they show how to hook up the lineset to the condensor unit and make the electrical connections . Personally I would like to see them show the Air handler actually being installed on the wall just to show its not a simple one man operation .
Vern if you decide to go with this unit just make sure you have a second person to help with the install as the air handler and lineset will be a bugger to get lined up and set on the wall by yourself . They are not that heavy but they are ungainly without having a 15' lineset already attatched to them ![]() Rick

I was thinking to myself the only way they could do it would be with a capped lineset that somehow pierced the seal as the final connection was made. I watched just enough of the 12-min video (trying to fast forward through opening boxes and crap like that) to see that there is a seal inside the O-ringed lineset connection. IF IT WORKS reliably, it's brilliant. Perhaps when the service valves are opened, that's when that piercing and opening of those seals is done.
Just how much cheaper is this machine to be taking this risk and dealing with a fixed-length lineset?

Mac I dont think the unit itself is cheaper at least I know its more than wholesale on a compareable goodman unit . Oddly enough though I dont know if you have been at HVAC long enough but back 20+ years ago GE shipped units with the lineset , Evap coil and condensor precharged and they were sealed similar to this unit . You just screwed the fittings together and this pierced the lineset connections and you were up and running no need to charge anything.

rickairmedic,
Wish you lived in my area, I can not find a tech that will talk to me, much less work with me. Rick the big thing for me is inverter technology. Your portable units will not work, sorry. ![]() I can't get a HVAC tech that lives next door, to walk across the street. Last edited by Vern2; 08-08-2013 at 06:41 PM. |

rickairmedic, Mac702,
I'm grid tie, Feb 2014 will have 4 years of zero electric bills, solar has paid me $5,400 so far, in two more years it will be $8,200. Will be moving up to 12k of solar this year. Because of 12k btu mini split in shop, a 30 percent increase in production coming. Pic 1 is from back yard looking across 2 acres. A lot more tractors under deck now, 5 more. Hate to say it, my 12k btu Ideal heat pump unit will run at half the cost of your 14K heat pump portables. ![]() Last edited by Vern2; 08-08-2013 at 06:54 PM. |

Vern would love to be able to say I was off the grid but I have way to many tree's to pull that one off . I cant even get a satalite company to put their equipment in my yard . I'm not really complaining though since the tree's make my Air conditioners life alot easier
![]() I got a letter from my Electric/gas company today telling me I was number 9 out of 100 similar homes in terms of energy usage in other words 91 out of 100 similar homes used more utilities than I do ![]() Rick

rickairmedic,
I'm not off grid, I use the grid as my battery. I have two digital power meters. I get credit for my over generated power and even cash back if I want it, up to 120 percent of my use. I had all my trees removes, then put back just what I wanted. Rick the Ideal heat pump unit with inverter technology will draw half as much kill-0-watt hours as your 14k btu portable units. ![]() |

rickairmedic,
I've got one good arm now, was a weight lifter for 20 plus years. I carried my weights everywhere. I had to leave Viet Nam fast in the 60's, had to leave a set of weights in Nanng, Viet Nam. ![]() My son lives 5 miles away, long black hair, full beard, 6' 1", 250 lbs, computer science degree. My wife is a welder, I should be okay. I moved 32 miles from center of Phoenix, but City of Gilbert moved their City complex 1/2 North of me. ![]() |
