Default Ladder Rack . . . . . . .

My neighbor wants me to build him a ladder-rack for his truck.

It will be "full width" (of the bed), and "full length" (to front of the truck).
....(of course, I'm sure he'll carry other stock on it besides a ladder...

I'm thinking 1ΒΌ" box tube ?..........

Thanks.......MARKO.

Marko I build alot of racks,I use 1-1/4 11 ga square tube,you can use angle to mount it,But I'd use the heaver gage tubing at Least 11 ga.And you need to brace it,I also use the tubing for that.I'll get some pic's of mine to post for you.

Ok marko the frist pic is the front,I heated the top tube to bring it down to meet the bottom tube.Then I tide them togather with 1/4x1-1/4 flat bar.You can see the bracing in the pic.The second pic is the middle where I braced it.They need to be there to stop the sway.

These next 2 are the middle showing the braces and of the rear.I used 1-1/4x2 tubing for the legs to fit in the stake pockets.But the angle is a better way to mount it.

I can get you the mesurements if you need them!!

Paul;

It might just be the angle of the pictures, but how much clearance do you have left between your rack and that garage roof?

Marko;

If you don't need to make it to heavy - gussets will do the trick as well. Paul made his extra heavy duty. But who know how much he loads up when the jobs a big one. I hope thats a Ford.

Yup you need them,Seen one on a little dodge truck no braces! he had about 10 2x12x16 ft boards on it.It started swaying I backed off was waiting for him to roll that thing,He finely slowed down,He couldn't get over 35 or it would go nuts.
