well,i got to work on the doors about 11AM today.
i'm training a new helper,so it went a little slow!
we got the door jam all built for one door and the door frame for it too.
none of the cross braces or any of that stuff yet,but it will go fast now.
we spent at least an hour moving stuff to make roomto start the build,33'X10' is a big area.
carol did get some pics, and i'll get them posted tomorrow, shes watching a movie now!
we quit at 4pm,and we had lunch for 30 mins,so we did get an honest 4 hours in today.

i've been out of town for a few days, and today looks like rain.
we may get something done today, this door is so big we have to build it outside, making the weather a big factor.

we have everything we can find supporting the door.
and its got a 3'' sag in the 32' span,we need to support it a little better.
we are using the forklift as a cutting table, using the plasma cutter to do the cutting, this stuff is too heavy to put in the saw.
boy, those pics make me look fat!

That's the problem with those cheap cameras. That is why I take all of the pictures (keeps me out of the picture that way) and when I look in a mirror I will not stand sideways.

Project is looking good so far.

well,it rained friday,we got some work done dispite the rain.
then yesterday it was sunny and nice,my new helper is working out good and hes learning to read a tape!
we worked a few hours today, its looking good!
we were trying to get pics of the string lines,to show how we were striging everything to make sure its straight and flat.
the string came out in little dashs, instead of a solid line.
weird.

That *is* weird how the string shows as a dashed line. It's actually easier to see that way. Nice work, Randy!

It's the way the light reflects off of the twisted string. It does look easier to see though. Looking good Randy.

Default Hydraulic cylinders

RandY,

Long time reader but 1st post on this site I think ?

I am building a 14 x 14 hydraulic swing up door. Got everthing figured out but the cylinder size. Found some at SURPLUS CENTER with a 72' stroke, single acting with 1.5 inch bore. With experience does this sound ok.

I am going to build the frame out of 4x4 square tubing.

If you look on PHOTO BUCKET and search for MEMCO123 and look under shop you can see the building I am building and the frame I put up before laying the block. The frame is shaped like this [ 4" ON THE SHORT SIDES AND 8" ON THE FACE, 1/4" THICK. Bond beams every 3' with rebar around walls, and a solid header with rebar on top of door.

Any help will be appreciated.

Melvin Myers
Louisiana.

Also in the "The Garage Journal" under "Building a new 40' x 60' block shop.

Thanks
