Smile Mini split for 300 square ft shop.

You'll like this install. With this install I won't have to spend $500 for HVAC tools.

Found this, Ideal 12,000 btu mini split, very cool install.

Video install.

Shop layout redraw for one air handler. Shop floor is 340 square feet, tan area. Will be using a fan at new door to blow cool / warm air into reloading room when I'm in there.

Any suggestions?

I've installed lots of mini-splits. You still need a vacuum pump and other HVAC tools, unless there is something special about that brand (but I'm not going to watch the entire video to find out.)

Why not a two-evaporator system with a common condenser? Why go through all that installation and have to use a fan in an open doorway? Yes, more money and work, but I just wanted to make sure you knew it was an option. It will also save energy by only heating/cooling the room you are using.

Mac702,

Flexible 15' stainless steel line set is hard connected to air handler. It has a 36 pound vacuum on line set already. The R401a is in the condenser, nothing to vacuum.

Sorry, if you wont view the video, you must not comment on my thread, you don't know what your taking about.

The short line set works for me.

Vern as much as I like mini splits and I put a pile of them in how much is this rig going to cost . I have a portable Airconditioner in my shop and love it as I can move it to where I am working or simply leave it in one place and run the exhaust hose to the window .

I am by the way currently sitting in my shop with the 16X8 overhead door open and its 85* outside and the portabe is 3 feet from the overhead door and blowing 59* air on me at the moment . I can almost reach out and touch the door frame on the overhead door from where I am sitting .

Wow, so there was something special about that brand, just like I admitted there might be in my comment...

And I got it from you in five seconds of reading instead of however long that infomercial was. I win...

Mac702,

Whats special about Blue & Gold Firearms Training?

Mac, is that type of install okay or not? You said you installed several mini splits. Looks like there is no work for a HVAC tech, that must be worth something.

Is there a better place I can put the air handler. I'd like to cool down the fire arms room.

Mac, I'm giving you 3 stars for your win. * * *

rickairmedic,

I live in Arizona, my thermometer in the shade has been reading 110f degrees the last couple weeks. If my shop was only 85f, I'd love it.

The unit is $1k, with no shipping and no HVAC tech needed.

Rick, I have a neibor that won't walk across the street, and give me a quote, but he's living with his dad. I did get a quote from Home Depot for $7k for a 1 1/2 ton unit. HVAC techs won't talk to people that want mini splits.

In addition to a firearms training company, I also do electrical and HVAC work full-time. The firearms training company is exclusively for private clientele.

Based on this question, I will actually watch the infomercial tomorrow and give you an opinion; call it morbid curiosity. I'm actually curious how they must run the sealed lineset without making a hole in the wall big enough for the entire evaporator. And whatever it is must be part of the reason why they can't do multiple evaporators or putting one in a room several walls away.

I've installed Goodman, Fujitsu (factory-trained), Mitsubishi, and LG mini split systems. It is a very efficient system and HVAC techs that don't do them are really missing out on the future. I'm seriously considering replacing my rooftop package unit with a whole-house Fujitsu 4-ton mini-split system.
