Permanent, Easy-On Locknuts or Lockwashers?
I need an 8-32 locknut that's easy to put onto the middle of a long bolt, and difficult to vibrate off. After watching every type of locknut back off from vibration, in this video, i'm skeptical of all but Nord-lock washers. https://youtu.be/IKwWu2w1gGk But nords seem expensive, and don't seem to come in 8-32. Crimp locks and interfering nuts seem very difficult to put on, especially halfway down a long bolt. Is there a cheap lockwasher that's similar to the nord? Or, a push-on nut or washer that's stronger Or, a non-locking nut with loctite? thx (also posted on metalworkforums) |

Jam nuts, with Loctite, red for permanent, blue if you want remove them ever.

Lacking anything else handy just deform the threads with a dykes.
The amount of damage determines the ease of removal. |

interesting that you recommend jam nut w loctite, not say flange nuts or some other method, w loctite.
this vid shows a flange nut beating a jamnut (vid is slow, watch at 2x speed): https://youtu.be/_ne19-3vkJg btw, scroll down to #2 here, it's recommended to put the thin jamnut between the work and the big nut. of course, in this question, there is no work-- just a nut hanging out by itself halfway down the bolt. But the bolt will vibrate, and i want to ensure that nut won't move. https://engineerdog.com/2015/01/11/1...out-fasteners/ |

I agree with the locktight answer except for the blue part, there are 2 colors of locktight in my world RED and green (green is thin am cam seep into things)
I had a chart from locktight the difference in red and blue is pretty much the color and a few inchpounds of torque, I have used red for decades and neve broken a fastener because of it. |

Red just needs to be heated up to remove the fastener. I use red a lot.

Maybe on a tiny fastener, I never heat things just take them out
