Mental exercise, I want a gin pole.

Well I've been doing some thinking and measuring. I've decided that I'm not going to set up to do combine augers however I still want to be able to handle tires, hoods on tractors and various combine parts.
One of my coworkers and I were at a training right before Christmas and one of the other guys in class had a bumper crane that really looked slick. It's made by Schlagel and folds down into the bumper. https://schlagel.net/product/quik-lift-bumper-hoist/
I'm still tossing around ideas with the guy I went to training with since we have identical trucks, his was the next one off the line.
I'm still going to change things up in the bed of the truck so I may still build a skid.

Okay so I figured a pic of how my truck is laid out now might be in order. If I go with the bumper crane I'd like to get rid of the cross box in front and the black box in the middle. Move the grey tank to the left front with the air compressor and red tool box staying pretty much where they are. Put a box in right front corner that's 2' deep and 2'X4'. Then a box along the right side to the back about an inch or 2 taller than the bed with a lid on top.

As you mentioned in the beginning, a mental exercise does not always produce results. Post a pic of the bumper crane.

How much weight will you need to lift.....?
How High will you need to go...…..??
Will the bumper lift work if you had one....?
Do you have a receiver hitch...…..?

Looks pretty well made, as evidenced by the pics (and the fact that they won't tell ya what it costs )

Depending on how much lift is needed to clear things like utility bed sides, etc, it has the same design drawback as the cheapie "pickup bed hoists" - you need to pick your boom length BEFORE you lift, and can't change it DURING the lift. might be able to minimize that drawback if it lifts HIGH enough, but a longer boom ALSO cuts down the weight you can lift.

I had a similar problem with one of my work areas; limited "swing area" over a steel table I use for working on stuff that'll hurt my back, and no way to get the backhoe close enough - not REAL heavy stuff, just enough to make me wish I hadn't lifted it the hard way (like 75-250# mostly)

My "bandaid" was a few mods to one of the HF pickup hoists I already had - Included converting it to a "mini-jib" and adding an electric hoist.

Now that I typed all that, I realized it wouldn't work well at all for a MOBILE application; too hard to keep the jib LEVEL enough for easy load control - also, lift range is limited to the height of the jib, so just a DIFFERENT set of limitations than the telescoping boom

A coworker and I have been discussing this thing for quite a bit of time and things have evolved. He's wanting basically a mounted cherry picker boom with a winch for lift. He doesn't work with the height I do. I am back to the gin pole however, I'm modifying a bit to use a single pole and have everything receiver hitch mounted. I will try to draw it up and post what I have in mind.

Okay I did a quick sketch of what I have in mind. I have 2 ATV winches I plan on using rated at 3500 Lbs. I am setting my weight limit with full boom 30 degrees at 500 Lbs. The part the boom mounts to will stay in the receiver hitch. The winches, jack, boom, and boom head will be stored in the truck bed. On the tail gate side I want to be able to use half of the boom to load into the bed of the truck.

I think it would be a lot simpler to use a long reach jack and a come along for lifting when needed and mutable lifting points along the boom, no cable or pulleys to worry about or store. Where is your swivel going to be? And I would think that you will need outriggers when loading into the truck.
