Default Van Body Door Rebuild

My 26' van body swing door seal is loose and I have to push the seal back in with my fingers every time I shut the door and I am damned tired of that. So today I took off the door, removed the hardware and seal.

Had to weld on a 3/4" nut to one of the slot head screws, as it was too rusted to hold with a screwdriver and use the impact. Came off easily using a wrench and the impact then.

I'd like to get a new seal, but am having trouble finding the right seal. I do not know the brand of the van body or the seal they used. The seal is 1 5/8" wide and the flap that seals against the door frame sticks out 5/8". The staples are shot through an aluminum retainer strip inside a flap on the seal but the plywood has rotted out and the staples no longer hold to the plywood. The plywood is 5/8". The door frame is 43" x 77" inside. The plywood is 42 1/4" x 76 1/4".

I can't seem to find a replacement seal the same shape as the one I took off. I have never rebuilt a van body swing door before so this is new territory for me.

Maybe I will just add a 1 1/2" steel flange and use a round rubber seal to seal against the door frame??? Or maybe someone here has better luck in finding a seal???

Last pics.

The door will be close to 3/4" after adding the inside and outside metal sheets.

If there is a place near you that sells van bodies or trailers they can get seals and door blanks.

Also, sillycone really helps rubber stay fresh. Find some silicone spray and touch up the seals once in a while.

Good suggestion. I have some. Think I may have to put can by the door.

A little progress. Decided to clad both sides of the door with tin. Checked the local steel supplier. They only carried bare steel no galvanized. Their 20 gauge 4x8 cut down to 76x42 was $92

So went to the pole barn guys and asked if the carried any galvanized. Nope. Asked what they had in the yard gathering dust. Said they had 4x10 sheets of factory painted white 20 gauge. Went out and looked, said they wanted $50 a sheet. Offered $80 for two. He said sure so we loaded them up.
Brought them home and cut them with the Dual Saw. Cut them slick as butter.

Laid out the holes from the old door on the plywood and drilled through the plywood and the first layer of tin.

Rolled out contact cement on the tin and plywood, waited 30 minutes for it to dry and used wood dowels to lay the tin on so I could get it all aligned, then pulled the dowels one at a time and rolled it to get the tin to stick to the plywood.

Turned it over and drilled out the 2nd piece of tin from the holes already drilled in the first sheet.

Waiting now for it to set for a couple of hours clamped straight then bolt on the hinges and hang the door. Going to Cheyenne in a couple days to see if I can find the right door seal.
