Default brazing copper tubing need rods

I need a good rod that I can buy from Amazon, for brazing 3/4 copper refrigerant tubing, I will be you using hand held map gas propane bottle with a very good torch head.

Its been a long time so also search the web and check my recommendation.

IIRC, you want Harris STAY-SILV 15 (Silver Brazing Alloy)
If this is for drinking water be sure to read the safety notes as some silver-solders were outlawed for drinking.

I have some silver-solder that states Cadmium free so maybe it is Cadmium that it bad.

The 15 is likely 15 percent silver.

IIRC: Copper to COPPER you do not need flux "but" the copper you use must be very very clean.


Also: you do not use the flame to melt the silver-solder the copper need to be hot enough to melt the silver-solder on its own without direct heat.
at the same time if you over heat the silver solder and it starts to bubble a lot it will contaminate the joint and you will have to start over and clean the copper.

Again, if the torch is not jetted for Mapp gas it may not get as hot as a torch properly jetted for propane.

Sorry...I am far enough away, even if it is "downwind"....
