The quick attach assembly.

Here I am aligning the hinge brackets. I did not have a single piece of 1.25" diameter rod so I squared off the ends of a few pieces, including two that were 1" diameter and added 3/8"-16 holes. I was then able to join them with short pieces of threaded rod. This worked out well.

A technologically advanced society would teach their children how to start a fire by rubbing two sticks together before teaching them how to use a lighter.

Aren't energy consumption and computers supposed to make life less stressful?

If you are not having fun then you are doing it wrong.

I have laid out the trim line for the unwanted portion of the quick attach plate and am drilling holes at each change of direction. The holes will allow the saw blade to rotate and provide a desirable radius in the inside corners.

I did not expect there to be this much stress. You can see here the curve that must now be straightened.

I was not happy with the result of my straightening. After bringing the pin holes to the correct spacing of 20.5" I found the plates were not in alignment.

A close look will show the flanges with the holes are not inline with each other.

My fix was to replace the strap that joined the two plates and add a new strap to the bottom.

Progress has been slow but it’s not from lack of trying. I have done little else for the last month but work on this beast. It’s getting close to completion and I’m both relieved and excited. I hope I am as pleased with the performance as I am with my work.

To avoid confusion, remember the work is fixed to an assembly jig when viewing the pictures.

The pivot and axle assembly. The pivot pin is 2 inch diameter with grease fitting. The flange will accept spindles from a Dana model 44 axle. The axle tube is three inch diameter tube.

Rear view of the axle and pivot assembly. The box can be attached to the axle pivot at several positions in 5 inch increments.
