MSC Ripoff

I needed to order a few new band saw blades for the little 4x6 saw, so went to MSC and tried to log in with my Enco info. NADA!! First bad sign. Then created an account with MSC and looked up the blades. I am looking for the Starrett 64 1/2" 10-14 bi-metal. Price is $49.22. I used to get them from Enco for around $18.

I can buy them off Ebay for $25.95 So much for the old Enco prices.

I purchase a $20 chinese one in that size for my smaller bandsaw and that blade works as good as the expensive ones. was very happy

Those are the right ones, but wrong maker. I tried one Starrett and decided it wasn't worth the cost. The Lenox is decent and the Irwin are iffy. Iffy everything goes okay, they'll cut a bit longer than most. There's no guarantee.

I've been buying Morse blades from McMaster-Carr and seem to get about the best life out of them if I keep them waxed and the rollers covered in snot. I don't break blade teeth off, the whole thing develops stress cracks and eventually snaps. Cleanup and removal/installation is nasty, but it seems to get me a bit more cut time (~180 cuts per blade 1.25" aluminum round vs ~150 without the wax).


Link to McMaster blade listing *didn't work as planned. You'll still have to filter it down to proper length 64 1/2", 1/2" wide.
