Really cool pops, thanks...

I am currently looking at getting another hatchet and that section making the head was pretty neat....kinda explains why some of them are so expensive...

That was enjoyable to watch. So much that I had to watch part 1 too.

Now I am curious. What might the welding flux they use be? Doesn't look anything like the Borax I've seen used. It also doesn't seem to spray out of the weld like borax seems to.

Wood ash and rice straw ash have been used for ages when welding. Ashes do have a lot of fine silica. Wood ashes also contain sodium carbonate, which acts as a flux for silica. It lowers the melting temperature and is used in making glass.

Here's a old smith showing it in use when welding up a small tomahawk.

As a text only (hard of hearing) person, the "Closed Captions" do leave a bit of "interpreting" to do but a few of the sentences still don't make sense. The biggest unknown one is, what is "ankle pins" or what was the intended word / phrase???
