Monkeywrench talked about it a long time ago using an oxygen concentrator to fill bottles. Here is a whip for doing it https://www.ebay.com/itm/72-Standard...-/202983919842

Yes, that is the thread I was looking for. I am gonna try it out, I've found a reasonably priced setup.

Likely a decade ago, I picked up a " Bristol ", for SCBA tanks, came out of a local firehouse, IIRC, the fire fighting industry upgraded everything, so there was suddenly a glut of these on the junk market. I think I was into it for under a c-note, and it had just been serviced prior to coming out of service.
Was powered by a 10hp 3phase dayton motor. I never did anything with it, ended up selling to a guy that ran a paint ball " course " or something like that. I share this story to point out, they are/where cheaper than dirt. I think it was a 4 stage machine, from England.

Ohhh,... so I learned something today !,.. it had what I thought where 3 or 4 catalytic converters on it, I " assumed " somehow it was removing gasses in a around about way to concentrate oxygen, but those where assumptions. I think it made a couple thousand PSI ? 2-3k ?

Breathing air is not oxygen. just compressed atmospheric air.

![]() But how pure do those oxygen concentrators get the air? My mom had one the last year she was alive. I guess scuba/ fireman’s tanks probably use just regular air, maybe filtered a bit. No need for pure oxygen, unless your lungs are damaged. Sent from my iPhone using ShopFloorTalk

Not sure about scuba but the Fire Dept. fills our breathing air bottles and its just filtered atmospheric air at high pressure.
