It is a good way to learn the code, and I choose to follow it even if I don't have to. It is the way to build transportable skills.
Wiring and building codes are there for a reason, and that reason is not to make a business rich. It is to protect the owner and the future buyer.

I have wired 4 homes and my shop. The first house I almost passed and the inspector came back once more to say his blessing. He was a cool guy. He would show up at a house with a blind man's white cane, and pretend he could not see, until he spotted an error.

Every job I did after that one passed first shot.

17' at the eaves, looks like you should get a big machine in there comfortably.
Is the door better on the left?
Are you planning on having any windows on the longwall or ends?

To me I think the door off to the side will work better depending on how I fill out the shop with equipment.

There is a site located walk door. I think I will put it near the roll up door on the side wall.

As far as windows I specified 3x5 foot clear wall lights. 16 total. 8 down each side....or two per bay.

On that note I'm leaning towards high bay LED fixtures. At work we had metal halide lights that we stripped the ballests out of and went to flouecent. Got tired of the flouecent bulbs going out so then switched to LED corn cob style bulbs in the old metal halide fixtures.

Jumping around further I was asked by the building supplier if I'm going with a 4" floor or 6" slab. Plans are being done currently for a 6" slab.

With this eave height I may build a small mezzanine apartment still inside.

For sure go 6" and rebar.
That mezzanine could lead to an office with a bed and kitchen in it.

The drawing doesn't show it, do you get the same frames for the ends ?

If not, the endwalls are support structures, and if you plan to add on in length
later on, those walls can't be removed.

He showed pic of endwall frame 1 with the door. There is a note on the drawing that stated this wall is not designed for expansion. The other frames are noted line 2,3,4. ORF has not posted line 5, so maybe that one is expandable.

You are correct. The end walls are not expandable.

There are two errors in the prints. One is the roll up door is supposed to be 16' wide. The eave height is supposed to be 16' high. I'm ok with the 17'

I did bring up the door size issue. I said a 12' wide door would work. It depends on if the roll up door is already made or not.
