My brother’s place has a 400A service, 200 each to house and the shop. It has what they call ‘central metering’. Meter is mounted on the pole with the transformer, and then there are seperate lines feeding each building. Common use is for farms. The meter uses what looks like an inductive loop like an ammeter uses to measure the power used.
