I see that new shelf on your back wall getting filled quickly. I'm still eyeing some "up" space left in my shop. I've done a good job with the occasional culling of boxes when I need room. The problem is the heavy stuff that can't go up...

My neighbor has shit all over the floor and bare, empty walls (12' high). "Time to get some pallet racking, son!"

The goal was to have the shop capable of taking the golf in by christmas.

I got it in on the 23rd, and had some room to work, but not much.

I had a few jobs to do before it goes into winter storage on the farm for a few months.

I made a lower subframe strut brace, the factory had a straight brace on higher spec models, I decided to make it T shaped for maybe extra placebo effect. first time using my chinese rivnut tool. setting m10 steel rivnuts out of position was not easy. used a jack to keep it pushed up and used a quickgrip clamp to start pulling the arms together.

replaced the lower engine mount bush and identified the source of a coolant leak. I only had a few hours to work on it so didnt get around to stripping away the pipes above the turbo to be able to tighten the banjo fitting. another time, it's a very slow leak.

yeah there's a fair few bits up there already. this shed has been built to reclaim shop space, I'm working through all the crap in the shop and culling maybe 10% of that too so it all helps.



I bought a wood chipper a few months back and it came in a crate made of 35mm angle which I dutifully cut into clean lengths and added to the resource pile. bought a length of 50mm angle and made a materials rack. jobs like this are where the bandsaw comes into it's own.

Something I've never done before is fabricated with a jig, but this was the perfect situation for it, and I had a load of short bits of angle on the saw. The job couldnt have gone faster with the jig and stick weld prep (zero)

Lag screwed into each stud with six 6x100mm screws per bracket and levelled with the chinese laser. All my lengths of timber and steel are off the ground!

My obsession with floor space continues....

I keep my building hand tools in a plastic wheely toolbox, I've had it forever but it takes floor space.

Used some more woodchipper crate and some offcuts of 20mm angle that I bought to reinforce the plywood shelf above and made a frame to lift the red boxes up off the ground so it can be parked underneath .

Next you can get rid of those garden tools, all of mine are hanging outside under the eves.

It’s like a big game of tetris. I play it in my shop too.

Issue now is I’m starting to gain some shelf space, and am trying to figure if there’s any possible way to convert it to floor space. More floor could mean more equipment....

Greywynd that's genius. Shelf space to floor space. sign me up as a tester when you have the basics of a plan!



I got lights up in the shedstension which helps obviously, just being able to get the pole light's tripod out of the way was nice. it was providing more than enough light for the use of the shed, but the stand seemed constantly in the way. some super cheapo LEDs from de bay have taken care of that.


Nothing major done on the shop in the last few weeks but so many little jobs in it, which is what it should be all about.

Since christmas I've had the golf in for some work underneath, the ferguson 20 for an oil seal and bit of a stripdown of the rear, refurbed a desk, helped the small man make a viking shield for a school project, making an anvil stand and have plans underway to make another desk.

it's not even that I moved that much stuff out. but moving a small bit of stuff has made everything so much more accessible. there's pretty much nothing right now that has to be moved to get to a thing behind or underneath it. that makes such a difference.

Looking real good. I am putting on an extension on the side of the shop probably next year. Would be this year but I will be out at the son's most of the summer building his shop. Might get time this fall if the weather holds out.
