BTW, are your initials O.C.D.? No, sadly enough. I just figure that I am paid to be a professional, so our shop deserves to look like professionals work there. The boss has no problem if I make things look nicer. He likes to take customers on shop tours sometimes, so I figure if the shop looks organized, and if some of the tools we made look nice, it will add to the thought if we take this much care in making a tool/ stand, then we will take care of working on customers cylinders, and not be a hack shop. Plus, the older I get, the more I forget, so I need to organize things more so I remember where they are. ![]()

Several months ago, I got an air drill from coworker, and mounted it on a quick change block to be able to drill spanner holes in parts I make on the lathe. Saves from another setup and layout. I put marks on chuck to orientate 6 places, and 4 places. Close enough for us.
Then I had the boss order several spotting drills to use. I finally got around to making a holder for these drill bits. The organization shelves helped me find an old used aluminum piston to use. Sent from my iPhone using ShopFloorTalk

I like the air drill setup. When you say spanner holes, I’m assuming two holes for pin spanners? Some of the folks may not know what that is, it is a common thing in the hydraulic world though for sure.

Yes,correct. I usually put four in now. Sometimes they are even threaded.depends on the job. The setup keeps them looking more evenly spaced, and less time than separate marking and layout then drilling in drill press, which then results in holes that do not look concentrate, since they are not usually too critical. Sometimes we also will drill for a set screw to lock the piston that is threaded on the rod end threads, thru the threads as a mechanical lock. Or install a brass pin and plug weld it, for certain applications. Makes drilling that a lot easier than by hand drill. Sent from my iPhone using ShopFloorTalk
