I told them I wanted a serious pad, and they said they could cast one in the big interlocking block mold. Today they called...$50 each. Couldn't have bought the ingredients for that price.
That was reasonable enough seems kind of cheap for all the material and labor that goes into it but sure they deal in bulk and that's where the savings come in sometimes DIY is more expensive with some things and that seems to be one of them...

Glad to see you're plugging away at it Gerry...

This is beer money for them. After the customer has ordered and paid for the conc, and then found out he ordered too much, and there is extra, they take it back to the plant and pour these little trinkets.

I'd say that's a win, win, there for sure... can't beat that.

Exactly. That's how most of the lock blocks are made. They're poured with all the leftovers that the redi-mix place would otherwise have to pay to get rid of...

Been a rainy spring but I have been replacing the door trim in the house with Walnut when it rained. I have been waiting for a dry moment to get a rental dump trailer and haul some clay to level the yard on the east side of the house. So I reserved the thing, then it rained, and I hauled clay anyway. I used up a stockpile out back and that is now gone, and the guy next door has a pile of clay over by the oil well that he has from a dugout for watering cattle. He said I could have some. So I mobilized my shit over there, and had Margot watching the gate so the cows would not get out. I approached the pile and the loader was sinking 6 inches and so greasy that I could not get traction to crowd the bucket full.
I got one trailer load and saw that when he dug the pond he mixed black dirt and clay together. Don't want that shit, so I gave up on it.
I went to my clay pit and looked at it, soft but has a root mat and some bushes growing, which will help, so I got another 7 loads out of there, and then it started to get pretty soft underfoot. A load is 3 buckets full and I have overloaded the trailer a few times. I had to walk the loader over and lift the dump box with a chain. It can handle 3 buckets, but I always try to stuff in more.

So now on Wednesday I am supposed to have the ditches dug, two of them right through the fill I just put down. I wheel packed it every 10 inches or so and it is pretty firm.
Today when I returned the rental, I bought the 4" pool noodles for insulating the water pipeline.

LOL! Yeah, I've done that they work great! and seem more durable than the normal black insulator foam tubes.
Even though a couple of friends made fun of my multi-color pipe wrap, I laughed and said at least I'll be able to find my pipes and faucets in the dark

They are way thicker insulation also. You can buy closed cell polyurethane insulated pipe for
$16 a foot at Urecon, or buy the insulation for 3.35 at Walmart.
Because being redneck is re-purposing an item for an unintended use, I'd say that pool noodles fits the redneck zone perfectly.

Well, Gerry. If we want to be politically correct!
It would fall under the "Bonified redneck white trailer trash engineering"
one could say without a doubt, I can be as bonified as it gets at times.
Nothing wrong with protecting your pipes even if it gets a little psychedelic...
